Edward A. Strong - Founder

Our founder, Edward A. Strong was born in New York City, worked in a printing house until 1882 when he, at age 20, moved to Kearny. In 1891 he opened a real estate and insurance business on Midland Avenue. He served as a volunteer fireman, was a charter member of the Kearny Elks Lodge, helped organize the Arlington Country Club, and President of the Arlington Choral Society. Mr. Strong was one of the organizers and founders of the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington, the First National Bank and Trust Company of Kearny serving as director and vice-president for over 25 years, the Kearny Federal Savings and Loan Association serving as officer and director for over 50 years, the Public Library serving as secretary for 16 years and the West Hudson Hospital serving as treasurer for 20 years. Mr. Strong was a charter member of the Arlington-Kearny Board of Realtors for 55 years and was instrumental in developing the Fairlawn Manor section of Kearny.
